My name is Ho Hin. Ever since I can remember, I was in poor health, often going in and out of hospitals. I was diagnosed with brain cancer when I was less than one years old. I needed to undergo surgery to remove the brain tumour, as well as two years of chemotherapy. With a social worker’s referral, my mother and I moved to the Ronald McDonald House.
A few years later, I was diagnosed with hydrocephalus (excess fluid in the brain), and had to go through more operations. I moved to the Ronald McDonald House again with my mother, who took great care of me.
My health condition kept getting worse. Since in Primary 3, I began to suffer from severe hearing loss, which affected my communication with other people. When I was in Secondary 1, I was completely deaf. I was then transferred to a special school from a mainstream school.
Although it was tough being deprived of my hearing ability, I tried my best to accept this harsh reality because I did not want my mother to worry about me.
A few years ago, I also suffered from severe scoliosis (sideways curvature of the spine), which affected my lungs and heart, and I needed undergo corrective surgery. After the operation, my body suffered from pain and tension for a long time. I lost my balance and had to rely on a wheelchair. Due to my long-term lower back pain and neck pain as well as body twitches, I could not sit for too long.
A lot of people feel sad hearing my experiences. Although I suffered from numerous physical problems and encountered a lot of difficulties in life ever since I was born, I have never thought of giving up. I want to do my best to help other people, and so I have decided to help other sick children at the Ronald McDonald House, to challenge myself and to become a fundraiser.
dream job is to become a bus driver. Due to my health condition, I cannot
fulfil this dream, but I still wish to travel all around Hong Kong by bus. Hong
Kong has a lot of beautiful and unique places to visit, and I want to give
myself a challenge: Bring everyone to 5 different places in Hong Kong within 2
I hope everyone will support my challenge and help the Ronald McDonald House Charities raise $200,000 to help other sick children and their family members!
