新春佳節將至，大家都應該忙於準備團年飯，迎接新一年的祝福。一家人齊齊整整，健健康康，是許多家庭平凡又幸福的心願，但對奕霖一家來說，卻曾那麼遙不可及。
12歲的奕霖是一位白血病康復者，她的抗病旅程是一場漫長的戰鬥。小小的身軀經歷了癌症和化療的煎熬，其後更面對了癌症復發與骨髓移植的重大手術。雖然她的抗病旅程充滿了痛苦與挑戰，但奕霖仍堅定地一一面對。在醫院與家舍裡渡過了無數個日夜後。今年，她與家人終於正式一起回家共度新年。「如果我有魔法，我想送健康給其他小朋友。」奕霖開心地說。
奕霖的父母回憶起最艱難的時刻 – 奕霖每次落藥後的副作用都是捉摸不定:嘔血、脫髪、皮膚敏感……而從屯門的家往返兒童醫院，需時接近3小時，但最令父母陷於兩難的，是醫院規定只允許一位親人陪同過夜，每次決定誰留下、誰離開，都是煎熬。「我每一晚都要和爸爸商量，決定誰留下，我倆都非常難受，離開醫院的那一位，總會感到內疚，就像離棄了隊友一樣。」媽媽Agnes回憶起仍感到難過。就在這個艱難時刻，麥當勞叔叔之家伸出了援手，為他們提供了一個喘息的地方。
「搬進家舍後，我們終於可以三個人緊靠在一起。」家舍鄰近兒童醫院的地利優勢及準時的穿梭巴士，能讓家人的抗病生活更緊密。Agnes 同時感恩家舍職員的體貼關懷，每每在公共空間，職員都會真誠地問候，就像家人一樣。尤記得奕霖於醫院治療時能到家舍暫住，正是生日當天，家舍特別安排她到尋寶閣挑選禮物，成為她最難忙的回憶之一。
今年新春，奕霖一家終於在自己的家，與親友一起慶祝農曆新年。這對他們來說是無比珍貴的時刻。奕霖更樂意捐出利是錢，支持香港麥當勞叔叔之家，為一眾病童家庭送上祝福。

Dear Valued Partners,
As the Lunar New Year approaches, many of us are busy preparing festive meals and welcoming the blessings of a new year. For most families, being healthy and reunited is a simple yet precious wish. But for little Emma and her family, this dream once felt out of reach.
At just 12 years old, Emma is a leukemia survivor. Her journey to recovery has been a long and arduous battle. Her small body endured the torment of cancer and chemotherapy, followed by a relapse and a life-saving bone marrow transplant. Despite the pain and challenges, Emma faced every step with unwavering courage. After countless days and nights in the hospital and the Ronald McDonald House, she is finally home with her family to celebrate the Lunar New Year this year. “If I had magic, I’d wish for health for all the other children,” Emma said joyfully.
Emma’s parents, Agnes and Wyman, recall the most difficult times. “The side effects of chemotherapy were so unpredictable,” Agnes shared. “Vomiting blood, hair loss, skin allergies… it was heart-wrenching.” Adding to their stress, the 3-hour roundtrip commute from their home in Tuen Mun to Hong Kong Children’s Hospital exhausted them further each day. The hardest part, however, was the hospital’s rule that only one parent could stay overnight. Deciding who would stay or leave became an unbearable dilemma. “Every night, Wyman and I discussed who stayed. It broke both our hearts. The one who left always felt guilty, as if abandoning a teammate,” Agnes recalled with tears in her eyes.When things seemed most overwhelming, Ronald McDonald House extended a helping hand and offered them a place to breathe.
“After moving into the House, we could finally be together as a family ,” Agnes said. The close proximity of the House to the children’s hospital, along with its reliable shuttle service, allowed the family to stay connected through Emma’s treatments. Agnes was especially grateful for the warmth and care of the House staff. “Every time we passed through the common areas, the staff would greet us with genuine kindness, just like family.” One memory stands out for Agnes. During one of Emma’s hospital stays, she was able to stay at the House on her birthday. The staff arranged for her to visit the Magic Room and select a gift, creating one of Emma’s happiest memories.
This Lunar New Year, Emma and her family are finally able to celebrate at home with loved ones. It is a moment they cherish deeply. Emma, overjoyed to be healthy and reunited with family, has even decided to donate her red packet money to RMHC HK to support other families in need.
